I always wanted a BC Rich after seeing Paul 'Tonka' Chapman play one in UFO in the early 80's. I guess, as he replaced Schenker, who was, and is, inextricably linked to the Flying V, he wanted to make his own statement and have a guitar that said 'Tonka' rather than ‘Schenker’. He used a BC Rich Mockingbird which was a fairly new and distinct looking guitar at the time. With its very unique shape it made a lasting impression on me.

At the time of getting this Warbeast, I was looking for a guitar with a Floyd Rose tremolo arm. I wanted to 'dive bomb' and didn't have a guitar with a whammy bar. So I found this ridiculously shaped guitar that screams Black Metal, to me at least.

Little did I know that you basically need an engineering degree to set up a Floyd Rose. Although I can just about set up the guitar now, it took a long time and several YouTube lessons to learn how to figure it out. Ironically, even with the Floyd Rose, a design that claims to keep the guitar in tune know matter how much you bend the strings, this guitar is difficult to keep in tune.

That said, tuned to drop D, this behemoth has a great neck and action, but never sit down for any extended period playing this monster as its razor sharp body will cut your legs off. Boy does it hurt. It's essentially a guitar that shouts 'look how Metal I am', a flashy guitar that looks good live.

The Warbeast has had live excursions with Årabrot and Liles/Maniac/ Stokes.... Just look how METAL I am, and you probably can't as the Trace Warbeast is now discontinued.
