Faulty Free

about

This piece of music has existed for sometime but has never really fitted conceptually, sonically or otherwise into any release or project in development.

I wanted to create a long minimalist piece designed to be in the most part ignored. The listener is asked to use and interact with this piece of sound in a vegetative way. It is not listening music (unless you want it to be).

Recommended listening is at a low volume whilst occupied in doing nothing, starring into space, reading a book, daydreaming, doing the washing up, fixing broken objects, exercising, drawing, painting, thinking, sleeping or bathing. The object of this exercise is to be preoccupied by doing something else other than listening to the music. The sounds should not be digested but gently absorbed. Effectively you should only notice the music once it has stopped.... then replay.

lyrics

When an appliance is faulty we quickly replace it with a new one. Sometimes the remedy is quite small and simple. Here is how to repair it yourself.
First unplug the appliance and plug another appliance into the socket to check if there is power coming through. If the power is fine, check the plug connections. Check the flex cord for wear or damage. If the appliance has a fuse in the circuit, you should also check to see if that is sound.
If all these aspects are fine, then the fault is somewhere else. Check around the appliance for any burned areas. Note if there is a burned 'electric' smell. If the damaged component can be replaced then replace it. If you are unable to do it, take the appliance in for repair.
If you are able to do the repairs yourself. Identify and write down the model and year of the of the appliance. Also write down the code and any other details that you may require for purchasing a replacement component. Once you have bought the replacement part make sure that it is the correct one and that it is compatible. When you remove the faulty part, remove the connections one at a time. Label each one as you go. Remember to simultaneously mark the connection points on the faulty appliance. Now connect the replacement. Match the connections of the faulty part to the replacement part. This should not be difficult as you have already marked them.
Double check all your connections. Plug the appliance in and switch it on. If it comes on and you do not get any 'electric' smell, you can assume that your repairs are fine and you can use the appliance normally.
